Home of the Brave: Profiles in Words and
Pictures of Bay Area Homeless Families
Published in 1988, this award-winning book, written
by SF Examiner Columnist, Stephanie Salter, profiles the lives of fourteen
homeless families in the Bay Area. Photographs by Tom Levy and Nancy Palmieri
also help bring to life the stories of these families.
BAWCC also published, in 1991, a book entitled A
Guide to Your Rights for Women. This book covered legal issues
related to a number of areas affecting the lives of women.
Resource Guides and Newsletters published by BAWCC
Emergency Services Sheet (For Women and Families)
BAWCC started publishing this "Guide to Services for
Low-Income Women and Families in San Francisco" in 1989. It covers no-cost
services and resources in many categories including: Family Support, Health,
Shelter, Clothing, Food, Mental Health, Legal, Children & Youth and other
areas. It is distributed city-wide.
Tenderloin Community School and Tenderloin Family
Center- Family Handbook
BAWCC has published a handbook, available in four languages, explaining
what the Tenderloin Community School, Family Center and Child Development
Center have to offer the students and their families. It includes information
on the Building Layout, General School Information, a description of all
of the on-site services which include: The Family Room, Rosa's Kitchen,
Phyllis' Garden, Library, and The Esherick Center. Located in the lower
level of the school, the Esherick Center, named after renowned architect
Joe Esherick, includes the Computer Center, Health Center with dental
and mental health service areas, and the Adult Education Center. The handbook
also includes a short history of the Tenderloin Community School and its
creation.
Tenderloin Children and Family News
Five times a year, BAWCC collects and publishes information
about all of the Tenderloin children, youth and family
services. BAWCC publishes this information in a quarterly newsletter,
and does two special issues anually: Holiday Programs and Summer Programs.
BAWCC also does separate resource sheets on an as-needed
basis.
