- Family Room
The Family Room, staffed by BAWCC, is a special place for the
school's families.
The drop-in morning program for parents and other caregivers provides
regularly scheduled parenting classes and workshops. It is a welcoming
space to meet other parents, use computers, and share information.
|

|
- Library
The Library now has a large book collection,
provided mostly by BAWCC, containing books specifically selected
for the diverse population of students at the Tenderloin school.
It is a colorful and welcoming home for books with
state-of-the-art technology for cataloguing and for the students
to do hands-on research.
Each classroom visits the library on a regular basis to learn
library skills, choose books, and listen to readings.

|
- Garden Program
The garden is named after one of the earliest
supporters of the School & Family Center: Phyllis! Gardening is
an important part of the curriculum. It's a hands-on
approach to how things grow & what plants need with an added emphasis
on cooking and nutrition, and a composting and recycling program
that is a city-wide model.
BAWCC's part-time Garden Coordinator works with all the classrooms
in the school's two gardens: Phyllis' Rooftop Learning Garden
and the first-level playground garden.
|

|
- Rosa's Kitchen
Rosa's Kitchen is named after Rosa Alvarado, a Tenderloin parent
who helped work with BAWCC to get the school built.
The kitchen is set up like a regular home kitchen and is used
for children's cooking classes and community events.
|

|
- After-School Programs
BAWCC sponsors afterschool clubs and programs
at the school, including
the 4-day/week Homework Help Club and a variety of both academic
and sports programs.
These BAWCC clubs are coordinated and/or taught by teachers at the school
with parent assistants.

The Esherick Center
The lower level of the school is named after architect
Joe Esherick, founding partner at Esherick Homsey Dodge and Davis (EHDD),
school architects in partnership with Barcelon and Jang. Joe worked with
BAWCC on the school for many years and never failed to be an inspiration
to all of us.
Community Services in The Esherick Center include:
- Computer Center
BAWCC's part-time Computer Center Coordinator
has regularly scheduled classes for all grades in the Center to
learn computer skills and create multimedia projects related to
their curriculum and interests.
The coordinator consults with the teachers to develop an appropriate
curricular focus for the students.

|
- Dental Clinic
The Dental Clinic is available to children attending the school.
Dentists, dental assistants & students from UCSF's Pediatric Dentistry
Division staff the Clinic. Children are seen during school hours
and receive check-ups, teeth cleaning, x-rays, fillings, sealants
& crowns when needed.
