In the heart of San Francisco's Tenderloin neighborhood, the Bay Area Women's and Children's Center is a unique presence. In this multi-ethnic neighborhood, BAWCC focuses entirely on the needs and issues of low-income families, children, and women.

BAWCC offers a variety of direct services that address immediate needs and assists with achieving long-term stability. BAWCC's advocacy, planning and policy work on issues of low-income children and families has had a positive impact on the lives of thousands since we opened in 1981. BAWCC's long-term projects have resulted in the creation of playgrounds, a recreation center, school, and family center.

BAWCC also focuses on community-building and information sharing. Since 1983, BAWCC has sponsored the Tenderloin NETWORK of Children, Youth & Family Services. NETWORK's monthly meetings include organizations and city departments which provide resources & programs for these populations. BAWCC publishes the Tenderloin Children, Youth & Family News six times a year in several languages. This is a comprehensive resource directory of programs and services for Tenderloin children, youth and families.

Direct Services BAWCC works with more than 600 families, children and women each month.	Advocacy/Coalition Building BAWCC has initiated and chairs many community efforts to expand resources for low-income children, families, and women.	Long-Term Community Projects BAWCC spearheaded and staffed efforts for 5 community playgrounds and the Tenderloin Community School and Family Center's construction.
Our Angel Child program provides gifts for more than 300 Tenderloin children each holiday season.	BAWCC has sponsored the Tenderloin NETWORK of Children, Youth & Family Services since 1983.	The construction process of Tenderloin Community School on Turk Street at Van Ness.

BAWCC's spearheading of community-wide projects has resulted in the construction of five children's playgrounds, a community recreation center, and an award-winning elementary school and family center.
